Kitesurf downwind from Moulay Bouzerktoun to Essaouira.
Moulay Bouzerktoun sits 20 km north of Essaouira and gets some of the strongest wind on the Atlantic coast. A downwind from there to Essaouira is a full afternoon of riding with the wind at your back, jumping off ramps and stopping at empty beaches along the way. We follow you in a 4x4 with water, snacks and a spare kite if you need one.
— The route
The downwind route.
We meet at our base in Essaouira around 11am. The 4x4 takes you and your gear up to Moulay Bouzerktoun while we check the wind. We launch the kites together, give you a quick brief on the route, the landmarks, and where to stop if needed. The ride covers about 20 km along an empty coastline of cliffs, hidden coves and one long sandy beach. We finish in Essaouira around 4-5pm depending on the wind.
— Skill requirements
Skill required for the ride.
This is not a beginner trip. You need to be able to ride upwind comfortably, change direction without crashing the kite, and self-rescue in deeper water. Wind in Moulay is usually 25 knots or more — we choose smaller kites (8-10m) for most riders. If you have done a downwind before, you will be fine. If not, we can take you on a shorter test ride first.
