Plage de Sidi Kaouki près d'Essaouira, surf trip Windy Essaouira

Surf Trip · Sidi Kaouki

Surf trip from Essaouira to Sidi Kaouki.

Sidi Kaouki sits 25 km south of Essaouira on a long stretch of empty coast. The waves are longer and more consistent than in town, the lineup is rarely crowded, and the village itself feels stuck in time — donkeys, fishermen, a couple of cafes serving fresh tagine. We run day trips a few times a week, usually when the forecast looks better there than in Essaouira.

About the spot

Sidi Kaouki, the spot.

Sidi Kaouki is a long, exposed beach break that picks up most swell directions. The wave is usually a soft right or left, ideal for intermediate surfers and beginners who want a slightly bigger playground than the town beach. The water is colder than Essaouira by a degree or two — we bring extra wetsuits in case you feel it. There are no shops on the beach, just the village a five-minute walk back.

The day

How the day works.

  • Pick up at your hotel or our base around 9am
  • Drive 25 minutes through the argan forest to Sidi Kaouki
  • Briefing on the beach about the conditions and the lineup
  • Two surf sessions with a break for lunch
  • Lunch at a local cafe in the village (tagine, salad, fresh juice)
  • Back in Essaouira by late afternoon

Who is it for

Levels we welcome.

Beginners can come if they have already taken at least one lesson and feel confident in whitewater. Intermediate surfers will get the most out of it — longer rides, more space, better waves than in town. We adapt the spot on the beach to your level, putting beginners in the gentler inside and intermediates further out where the wave breaks cleaner.

About the surf trip.

No. We bring a quiver of boards in the van — foam for beginners, hybrids and shortboards for more experienced surfers. You can also bring your own if you prefer. Wetsuits and rash guards are included.
About 25 to 30 minutes from Essaouira center, depending on traffic. The road goes through the argan forest where you can sometimes see goats climbing the trees. We do not stop for tourist photos unless you ask.
Yes. Lunch is at a small cafe in Sidi Kaouki village — usually fresh tagine, salad and bread, with mint tea. If you have dietary preferences let us know in advance and we will arrange something that works for you.
If the forecast looks completely flat we cancel the trip and reschedule for another day at no cost. If conditions turn out worse than expected on arrival, we still spend time on the beach and in the water, or drive 10 minutes further to a sheltered spot that often works on smaller days.
