Sandboarding in Essaouira — the Ouassane dunes.
Twenty-five minutes south of Essaouira, right next to Sidi Kaouki, the Ouassane dunes roll out slopes of golden sand facing the Atlantic. You ride them on a sandboard the way you'd ride snow — run after run, each at your own pace. It's one of the most unique things to do around Essaouira, and it depends on neither wind nor waves: from €25 per person, morning or sunset session.

Ouassane is a ribbon of dunes set between the backcountry and the ocean, minutes from Sidi Kaouki and about a 25-minute drive from Essaouira. Slopes high enough to pick up real speed, fine sand that forgives every fall, and almost nobody around — just the dunes, the Atlantic as a backdrop and the silence. In the morning the light is soft and the sand still cool; at sunset the dunes turn gold. Both slots are worth the trip.

Who is sandboarding for?
Everyone. No experience needed: you can ride sitting or standing from the very first run, and the sand cushions every fall. Kids are welcome at any age, accompanied by their parents. It's also the perfect plan for a day without wind or waves: when the ocean takes a break, the dunes are always there. Minimum 2 people per session.
