— Kitesurf for Kids · Essaouira
Kitesurf lessons for kids in Essaouira from age 12.
Kitesurfing for children is not the same as for adults. Smaller kites, shorter sessions, more time on the beach learning to read the wind. We have been teaching kids in Essaouira since 2017 and Mohamed has helped over 200 young riders take their first water start. The goal is for kids to have fun first, become safe second, and become independent riders third.
— Why kids love it
Why kids love kitesurfing.
Kids learn fast. They have low body weight, quick reflexes and zero fear of falling. Most children manage their first board start within 6 to 8 hours of lessons — sometimes faster than adults. The freedom of being pulled by the wind, jumping small waves and gliding across flat water becomes addictive in the best possible way. Many of our kid students come back every year through their teens.
— Age and equipment
Age and gear for kids.
We accept children from age 12 for kitesurf lessons, with a minimum weight of around 40 kg so they can handle the kite safely (5m to 7m kites). All equipment is sized for kids — smaller bars, shorter lines, lightweight twin tips.
— Safety protocols
Safety standards for kids.
- One instructor for one child during water sessions
- Helmet, impact vest and quick-release safety system at all times
- Sessions limited to 90 minutes to avoid fatigue
- Wind window kept below 18 knots for kids under 14
- Parents stay on the beach in radio contact with the instructor
- We never push a child past their comfort point
— Lesson structure
How lessons progress.
First two sessions are on the beach with a trainer kite — learning to steer, depower and feel the wind. Sessions 3 and 4 move into shallow water with body drag exercises. By session 5 or 6, most kids try their first board start. We progress at the child pace, not the parent pace. Some kids take 4 sessions, others 8 — both are normal.
